We will learn from each other - members will help fill in others' gaps, come to the group with diverse levels of skills and knowledge of technology and a willingness to share with others.
We will approach things with an open mind and enthusiasm and will share our passion with others.
We will be available to collaborate and communicate effectively through the use of online resources or otherwise.
We will be supportive of each other, ideas, endeavors, the process, and the bumps and have no assumptions.
We will have a sense of humor and will laugh loud and often!
Objective: To seamlessly integrate 21st century skills into the existing Swasey and SAU 16 curriculum.
First Steps: As a team (at first) try to nail down what 21st century skills are and how they translate in an elementary environment.
Identify a beginning resource to read as a team and to make future comparisons with when we find additional resources.
Interpret our findings and what it means for our learners and within the context of our existing curriculum.
Figure out what it means to Swasey at large - what do others think 21st century skills look like (or will look like)?
Try to determine what skills or areas could be focused on at each grade level. When thinking about this, it will be important to consider what skills will build upon each other and in what ways they will do so.
Future Steps:
Identify tools that are appropriate to reach the 21st century skills at the identified grade levels.
Align tools and lesson ideas with units and grades more specifically.
Parent education - teach parents about the importance of integrating 21st century skills.
Display compiled information and resources in an accessible space.
Current Steps 5/10/10
Link newly created glogs to a common wikispace page - each team member will create one glogster outlining one of the elements listed on the Geography 21st Century Glog.
Google Earth = Kim/Paula
Google Maps = Amy
Voicethread = Lisa
Global Connections = Kathy
Each of the new glogs will display:
- the NH State standard the lesson meets
- example of a traditional lesson meeting this standard and/or assessments
- video clips of the students engaged and talking about (reflecting/evaluating) the lesson
- statement about how the team's objectives were met (aligning tools with the standards to focus on collaboration, critical thinking, and effective communication).
- Bloom's butterfly - which elements were met by a traditional lesson and which were met with a 21st century lesson (with colored arrows)
- Reflection questions (assessing the effectiveness of the lesson - asking the students to assess themselves will be a future element)
From now until we meet again on June 1st...
- work on creating and employing the lesson in your classroom, and gathering feedback (video and otherwise)
- log onto the wikispace for the end project to view, evaluate, and add reflection questions for the glogs
